FAQ

How do I get a Library Card?
The Shaw Public Library services Clearfield Borough, Bradford and Lawrence Townships.
If you live in any of these three areas, Shaw Library is considered your home library.  Please follow the bulleted guidelines below to apply for a library card.

If you live outside of these areas, please bring your home library card with the blue, Access PA sticker and the following:
  • Ages 16 and up: Bring in a photo ID and proof of current address.
  • Kindergarten - 15 years old: You must be accompanied by a legal guardian that has photo ID and proof of current address.
How do I check out an ebook?
Use Overdrive to check out eBooks and eAudiobooks.  You can also download the app so you can read or listen on your phone.  We have Overdrive instruction brochures available at the library, or you can download a brochure to use at home.
How do i volunteer?
The Shaw Library has some volunteer opportunities such as cleaning shelves, sweeping the parking lot, and straightening books.  All volunteers are required to submit copies of current Act 34, 114 & 151 clearances, and fill out the volunteer form available at the desk.
how do i apply for clearances?
The applications for clearances can be found here:
  • Child Abuse Clearance
  • PA Criminal Background Check
  • FBI Fingerprinting
More information on the above clearances can be found at the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.
do you accept book donations?
The Library has very limited space for donated books, which is why books must be in like-new condition and less than a year old.  We do accept small paperback books for our Honor Shelf, audiobooks and DVDs.  Other organizations to contact for book donations would be:
  • Handicapped Society
  • CAST
  • Curwensville Library/Curwensville Women's Club
Looking for historical information?
The Library's Penn Room is dedicated to Pennsylvania History and contains many informational texts.  Anyone is welcome to visit the Library and look through our collection for research and informational purposes.  If you are unable to visit the Library to obtain the information you need, please contact the Clearfield County Historical Society.  They have the staff and resources to help you find the information you need.
*There is a charge of $5/request received by the Library.
